Camp Activities
Land Sports
Sports fields and courts conveniently surround the living areas of camp. There is league competition in baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, football and volleyball. Additional sports include tennis, golf, paddleball, kickball, machanayim (a popular Israeli game) and the ever present tetherball. Periodic sports clinics are offered. Campers go horseback riding at a nearby stables.
Water Sports
Swimming is always available in Camp Nageela, in either our outdoor or indoor pools. Instruction swim with the goal of Red Cross certification is an optional specialty. (Parents should request this before camp.) Rowing, canoeing, and paddle boating is available on our lake. Banana boating on a nearby lake is offered for older bunks
Trips
There is one overnight trip plus several day trips.
Trips for this season are a heavily guarded secret, but past trips included overnight trips Niagra Falls, Hershey Park, New England and NYC. Days Trips to Six Flags Great Adventure, Dorney Park, Arcades, Hikes, Bowling, Skating and much more
Specialties
We offer paintball on our own paintball course for older bunks and target practice for younger. We have biking on our paved path. A petting zoo with a large variety of animals and fowl is a great place to visit during free time. We have a game room with air hockey, foosball, ping pong, x-boxes with large screen monitors and dance mats. Our arts & crafts tent features a wide variety of projects. We offer food decorating and baking in our new camper’s kitchen. There is drama workshop and performances in our beautiful new theater, (girls put on a major production each year involving the entire camp.) Movies are shown on our giant screen. Those technically inclined can use our fully equipped new audio/visual room. We offer skill building workshops such as guitar, woodworking, nature and wilderness, rocketry, leather working, Israeli dance, gymnastics and much more. We have a computer room with access to email during free time, and a well equipped canteen.
Special Activities
Exciting night activities such as contests, shows, performers, music, and wacky activities cap an exciting day. Carnival, color war, night trips, and many theme days add excitement. The singing and spirit that seems to be a regular part of everything in camp indicate the very happy nature of our camp. Every seventh day is Shabbat. Meals are more elaborate, there is special Shabbat song and dance, and special recognition for campers kind acts. Group games and performances round out the Shabbat program. (Much like Shabbaton programming.)
Jewish Content
There are two Jewish Activities each day. There is a 20 minute “tefila workshop” where campers learn the Jewish idea of God and prayer. There is also a Jewish period that offers a discussion, game or activity about a Jewish concept. There is an optional “night club” where campers can study a Jewish topic of their choice with staff, learn to read Hebrew, or even prepare for their bar mitzva. Shabbat is observed and all food is kosher. Our staff is all Jewish and committed to Jewish observance. There is a strong bond to Israel as most of the staff has studied or resided there.
